Winning the Battle in the Spirit.

Winning the Battle in the Spirit.

Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. And He said, "Let Me go, for the day breaks." But he said, "I will not let You go unless You bless me!" So, He said to him, "What is your name? He said, "Jacob." And He said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed." Genesis 32:24-28 (NKJV)

In this verse, a powerful principle is revealed. It shows us that any problem you and I can ever face, has its origin in the invisible realm. It doesn't matter if it is sickness, shortage, or lack of any kind. Every problem is rooted in the Spirit, and must be won or solved in the Spirit first.

In the above Scripture, we see Jacob demonstrate power and wisdom over the invisible realm, to secure his victory. I still remember in my early days as a new believer, how passages of this kind, used to always confuse me. It seemed to insinuate that the blessings of God would only come after a good fight with God.

That might have been the case in the Old Testament, because of man’s sin and rebellion toward God. However, now the war with God is over because of Christ’s sacrifice. "But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ." Ephesians 2:13

So, the only fight we are called to fight, is the fight of faith. This is where we fight in the Spirit to punish all negative force, thoughts, pictures and emotions that are trying to stop us from laying hold of the victories that God has given to us in Christ. There are times when we have to draw a line in the sand and choose to believe what God has said to us, above all the negative forces of hell.

My question to you today is this: "What is the condition of your spirit? Is it strong, or is it weak? How are you dealing with the dreams and visions that God has placed within your heart? Are they still hot, or have they become cold over time?"

Remember, your Spirit is where all things come from. I call it the "Miracle Incubation Center." It is the place where victories are won or lost. Therefore, it is imperative for you to always desire to win first on the inside, before it can be manifested on the outside. Only when you lay hold of your victory in the invisible realm, will it ever manifest on the outside.

So today, make a decision to be like Jacob, and fight and win your battles in the Spirit first. Here are four more Biblical examples of others who did just that, to encourage you that what they did, you can do also too. They each won in the Spirit, through different ways.

  • The Hebrews won through faith words and actions.

"Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not worried about what will happen to us. If we are thrown into the flaming furnace, our God is able to deliver us; and he will deliver us out of your hand, Your Majesty. But if he doesn’t, please understand, sir, that even then we will never under any circumstance serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have erected."

Daniel 3:16-18 (TLB)

  • David won through faith words and thoughts.

"Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head; and then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel!" 1 Samuel 17:46 (TLB)

  • Elijah overcame through prophetic prayers.

"Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit." James 5:17-18

  • Lastly, Paul & Silas won through worship and praise

"And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.  And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed." Acts 16:25-26.
